We’re certain of the fact that
technology is taking over the world. Most of NYC is dependent on technology –
most of our homes have automated systems and many of us can’t breathe without
our phones. Technology has worked its magic over all of us – it can make us
feel chained and liberated at the same time. But should we let technology work
its magic over our kids?
Our little ones – old enough to
go to preschools – are inquisitive about everything. Two to five-year-old kids
show interest in all kind of things, they ask questions that sometimes leave
grownups baffled, don’t they?
When kids of NYC see technology being used
everywhere then why should preschools shy away from employing technology as a
means of positive learning? Following are the ways in which technology can be employed in NYC’s preschools:
Classroom Experience
If technology is wisely
integrated into preschoolers’ classroom activities it can provide an enriching
experience to all kids. Whatever may be the type of novel tech, it should be
appropriate for children’s use and rather than overshadowing other tools it
must complement the existing learning tools present in the classroom.
Teachers
must focus the use of new tech in classrooms to support students’ skills in a
way that paves way for better understanding as they climb up the academic
ladder. Children’s relationship with knowledge must yield creativity.
Technology Based Projects
We must never underestimate
creative ideas and knowledge of our little ones. As noted above, at this age
children’s inquisitive levels are off the roof. Children express their views by
other means rather than merely speaking.
Technology can turn out to be an
outstanding way through which children in preschools can express what’s in
their minds. Clicking pictures of what interests them, connecting objects and
ideas, making small video documentations, make voice recordings, can all serve
as excellent ways of self-expression.
Connect Rather than Isolate
Preschools in NYC should employ
on this basic principle. Technology should hold the class together, it must
assist kids to strengthen communication rather than depriving them of it. When
employed properly, technology can strengthen bonds between classroom and homes
of students. A purposeful employment of technology in preschools will go a long
way.
